SETTING PROFESSIONAL BOUNDARIES

Navigating Client Expectations: Establishing Professional Boundaries in Real Estate
As real estate professionals, we pride ourselves on our dedication to our clients. However, it’s crucial to balance this commitment with clear boundaries regarding our availability. Recently, I’ve encountered situations that highlight the importance of managing client expectations while maintaining professionalism. Let’s explore how we can navigate these challenges effectively.
In the Philippines, no law, including the Real Estate Service Act (RESA Law), mandates that professionals be available around the clock. It’s essential to understand that our duty to clients does not equate to being on call 24/7.
While we are committed to protecting our clients' interests with "utmost fidelity," this refers to the quality and integrity of our work—not an endless supply of our time. We must remember that our professional responsibilities should not infringe upon our personal lives.
According to the Philippine Labor Code, the standard workday is 8 hours. Even as independent contractors or licensed professionals, we are entitled to "weekly rest periods" of at least 24 consecutive hours. This legal framework supports our right to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Constant demands for attention, regardless of the time, can border on harassment. As professionals, we have the right to set "reasonable" business hours, ensuring that we can provide quality service without compromising our well-being.
